I have been a special needs teacher at WCHS since 1990 (the first full year in the new building!) having come here from Rochester Middle School where I had taught for 9 years. My licensure at that time included mental disabilities and learning disabilities. With the move, I added to my certifications with an endorsement for emotionally disabled students. Currently I serve as teacher of record for about 25 students. That requires an annual case review (ACR) where an individualized education plan (IEP)is prepared. I then ensure that those students receive the services noted in their IEP and help them through their four years of school at WCHS, focusing on their transition to adult life.
The balance of my day is spent providing educational services to special needs students in their general classrooms (inclusion). That may entail taking or typing up notes, working on projects, assisting to do research, finding resources, reading tests or modifying materials. While I have done this in several departments, I have provided inclusion services in the social studies department since 1990. They are an incredible group of caring, knowledgeable individuals who are particularly complimentary when well-fed :)

My husband, Kevin, and I have been married for 37 years and have "emptied our nest". Although we're not quite sure it is truly empty as Griffin, our grandpuppy, has been with us for two extended visits. Hopefully he will soon join our son in NYC. Kevin acts as chief financial officer for Elkhart Schools and he keeps an eye on my expenditures as well. We have two sons.
