The Warsaw Community High School Bands will present their annual Pops Concert, entitled "The Serious Moonlight” - on Thursday, May 19th at 7:30pm in the WCHS Performing Arts Center.

The WCHS Concert Band will perform music from movie soundtracks, including a medley from Disney’s “Tangled”, music from “Young Frankenstein”, and “Live and Let Die” from the James Bond film.

The WCHS Wind Ensemble will pay tribute to the music of David Bowie and Prince by performing hits by the two artists.  The program will include “Life On Mars”, “Let’s Dance”, and “Under Pressure” by Bowie, “1999”, “When Doves Cry”, and “Purple Rain” by Prince, and many others.  The WCHS Flute Ensemble, WCHS Jazz Band, and WCHS Percussion Ensemble will also perform.  

The Flute Ensemble is under the direction of Dianne Martin-Ratliff.  All other bands and ensembles are directed by Mickey Ratliff and Emily Mikel.  The concert, which begins at 7:30pm in the WCHS Performing Arts Center, is free and open to the public.  Contact the WCHS Performing Arts Center at 371-5037 for more information.

The Warsaw middle school bands will present their spring concert “See You at
the Movies” at 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at the Warsaw Performing Arts Center.

The concert will include favorites such as “Mission Impossible”, selections
from “Harry Potter,” “Circle of Life” and “Highlights from The Hunger Games.”

The Combined Edgewood/ Lakeview Middle School jazz band will be
performing as well as the sixth grade band. Band awards will be presented.

The middle school bands are under the direction of Joseph Peloza. Enjoy a
night of movie music and help celebrate the accomplishments of these great
student musicians.

The concert is free of charge and the public is invited to attend.

The Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Department will present "Jazz in the Night/ Drum Enchanted Evening" on Thursday, May 5th at 7:30pm. The concert will feature the WCHS Jazz Band, the WCHS Percussion Ensemble, and the combined Edgewood/ Lakeview Middle School Jazz Band. The groups will also perform with special guest artist, David Ridenour on guitar.

The WCHS Jazz Band will perform a wide variety of musical styles, including classic jazz standards by Herbie Hancock and Dave Brubeck, as well as the music of contemporary artists like Norah Jones, Stevie Wonder, and recent Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Chicago.

The WCHS Jazz Band performs extensively and has received numerous accolades and honors over the years, including performances at the prestigious Elkhart Jazz Festival in 2012, 2014, and 2015. The band has also been invited to return to the festival for a fourth time in June of 2016.

The WCHS Percussion Ensemble will perform pieces ranging from Classical to the Latin-jazz of the Pat Metheny Group. The Warsaw Winter Percussion Ensemble will perform its 2016 competition show, “Passion, Grace, and Fire”, based on the music of jazz-fusion guitarist Al Di Meola.

The WCHS Percussion Ensemble placed seventh at the Indiana Percussion Association State Finals in 2016. Warsaw is a five-time Indiana State Champion and has qualified for state finals twenty years in a row. The WCHS Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble are under the direction of Mickey Ratliff. The Middle School Jazz Band is directed by Joseph Peloza.

Performing with the WCHS Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble will be special guest artist, jazz guitarist David Ridenour.

Mr. Ridenour is a guitarist/vocalist/composer from Cincinnati, Ohio. As a performer, he has appeared on stage with such artists as Maynard Ferguson, Ray Charles, Joan Baez, The Temptations, Chuck Berry, Lee Greenwood, Johnny Rivers, Percy Sledge, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Helen Reddy, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops, the Louisville Pops, and the Lexington Philharmonic. Ridenour’s original compositions have appeared on television programs such as "Will and Grace”, "Passions", and "Providence", and on recordings by the jazz quintet Crackpot Theory. Ridenour earned a BM in Jazz Guitar Performance from Morehead State University (KY) and currently teaches and performs regularly in the Cincinnati area.

“Jazz in the Night/ Drum Enchanted Evening” will take place Thursday, May 5th at 7:30 in the Warsaw Performing Arts Center. Admission is $5. Tickets are available in the WCHS Performing Arts Center ticket booth. TG’s Frozen Yogurt of Warsaw will sell yogurt in the lobby from 6:45 to 7:30 and again at intermission.
