Due to the upcoming ISTEP test, WCHS will be modifying its schedule to meet the needs of students during the testing window.

ISTEP testing begins the week of Feb. 26 and goes until March 9. Students will test with their classroom teachers. This means testing in math, English and biology will occur during the related class period.  To accommodate the length of the tests, the high school will run a double block schedule the first week of ISTEP testing.

During the week of Feb. 26, WCHS students will begin testing in English on Monday.

February 27 will be an even block day with no late arrival. Students will have enrichment, then periods 2, 4 and 6 for 90 minutes each.  February 28, will be an odd period block, Thursday will be normal late arrival then even period block schedule. March 2 will be an odd period block.

On Feb. 27, students will report to Enrichment at 7:40 a.m., then begin English section 2 testing and attend classes according to a block schedule for periods 2, 4 and 6.

The following week, WCHS will begin testing for the math section of ISTEP. On Monday and Tuesday, the schedule will follow a regular format for periods 1-7 with math sections one and two. Biology section one testing will be March 7 and 8, normal block schedule on these days.

Testing will take place for juniors retaking the ISTEP and sophomores completing the English and math testing requirements. Students will test with their math or English teacher during their class periods. Biology testing will take place for all freshman and sophomores currently taking biology.

Student attendance is important during ISTEP testing. Please ensure students bring a fully charged iPad for testing every day. Proper sleep and nutrition are vital for student success on these required assessments for graduation. From Feb. 26 through March 2, the cafeteria will also have free breakfast for students.

eLearning Day Information for Secondary Parents

The first eLearning Day for 2017‐2018 for Warsaw Community Schools will take place on
Saturday, February 17, 2018. This day and March 17th have been scheduled to make up school
days that have been missed due to dangerous weather conditions. Making up lost
instructional time in this manner allows students to be dismissed for the summer in late May as opposed to June.

eLearning Day Procedures

All student assignments for the eLearning Day will be posted by 9:00 a.m. on the district and school web site. The district website may be accessed by visiting
http://www.warsaw.k12.in.us and the school web site may be accessed by visiting
http://yourschool name.warsaw.k12.in.us (ie: http://wchs.warsaw.k12.in.us). All lessons will
be organized by school and teacher. Each teacher’s page will provide specific instructions for
the assignments to be completed or links to commonly used learning tools such as Canvas.
The assignments may be completed on the actual eLearning Day or may be completed and
turned in any time prior to the start of school on the following Thursday, February 22, 2018.
Completion of the assignments will allow the student to be counted as in attendance on the
eLearning Day. Any student who fails to turn in the assignments by the deadline will be counted absent for the eLearning Day.

On the eLearning Day, teachers may be contacted by email or other established means of
communication with any questions about assignments. Additionally, a technology support line
will be available for any general technology questions by calling 574‐371‐5088 from

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

eLearning Day Resources

Also, for individuals that do not have Internet connectivity at home, students may use the
wireless network that extends out into the parking lot around all of our school buildings or use
the free wireless Internet service and/or computers at the Warsaw Community Public Library.
Finally, one computer lab in each middle school and the WCHS Media Center will be open for
one hour each day after school on Tuesday, February 20th, and Wednesday, February 21st.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

We are seeking your assistance with stopping a concerning trend that has been occurring nearly every Thursday morning.  That trend is chronic tardiness.  There are a large number of students who arrive late each Thursday.  The number of tardy students is nearly seven times as high on this day than on any other day of the week.

Thursday morning is our late start, PLC day.  This day provides teachers throughout the district an opportunity to collaborate, share, and learn from one another.  The result for our teachers is a guranteed hour each week to plan, review data, and provide the best instruction possible to our students.  In order to continue with these all important PLC days, our students must attend, be here on time, and be in their respective classrooms by 8:30 AM.

Beginning next week, we will be assigning disciplinary consequences to repeat offenders.  As a parent or guardian, anything that you can do to assist will be greatly appreciated.  Our students need to be in class and ready to learn every Thursday morning at 8:30 AM.

Thank you for your assistance!

Best,
Your Administrative Team

Student Parking and Parent Drop-Off/Pick-Up Information

We have made some significant changes to our process for student parking and where parents can pick-up and drop-off their students. This information contains some images to help clarify the new parking expectations and increase the safety for all members of the WCHS community.

Parent Pick-up and Drop-Off

The designated areas for parents is now in C-Lot at the south-east end of the building and A-Lot by the entrance to the WACC on the north-west end of the building.

This is an overview of the WCHS campus with each parking lot marked.
(Click on the images to view the full size in new window.)

A-Lot

This parking lot is for student parking. The portion of the lot closest to the building is reserved for morning co-op students returning to campus later in the morning. It should be clear of any cars in the morning. The northern part of A-Lot is open for other student parking. This is also a designated area for parents to drop-off and pick-up students at the entrance of the WACC.

B-Lot

This parking lot is at the front entrance of WCHS. Due bus traffic during the morning and the afternoon, there is no longer any parent drop-off or pick-up in or around B-Lot. This is a change for this year. B-Lot is reserved for staff and short term visitors to the building.

C-Lot

C-Lot is a designated parent pick-up/drop-off area. This is reserved for staff parking only starting this year.

D-Lot

This parking lot is for student parking only. Student drivers can enter the building through one of the entrances in the PAC area when they arrive at school. This is not a designated parent drop-off/pick-up area. There is going to be a second entry/exit drive added to this lot which is not currently this map photo.
There is a portion of D-Lot that will be blocked off from use during the day for the marching band practice area. The area in front of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) is designated for bus traffic only before school and after school to make sure the buses are able to enter and leave the campus with as little traffic as possible.

We appreciate the cooperation of our parents and students in following these guideline for parking, dropping off and picking up students at Warsaw Community High School to ensure the safest possible traffic flow for everyone.
