NLC TRACK FIELD TO CONVERGE ON TAC
WARSAW - Sixteen teams from eight schools will converge on the Tiger Athletic Complex tonight for the Northern Lakes Conference Track & Field Championships.
Warsaw leads the race in both the boys and girls standings after finishing in first place through the dual and triangular part of the season, and both squads hope to earn conference championships with strong performances tonight.
The Northern Lakes Conference and the Warsaw Tiger Track & Field teams will also pay tribute to Morrey Hester and Roger Haeck, both avid and long-time supporters of athletics who passed away this past year.
Mr. Morry Hester was an avid track and field enthusiast and track official for several years. He volunteered for many years here at Warsaw heading up the timers and also a part of the chain crew for several years in the fall with the football team. He loved this community and the young men and women who wear the orange and black, and he was well known for encouraging all athletes from all schools.
Additionally, the Tigers and the high school athletic community lost Roger Haeck who was a science teacher at Lakeview Middle School as well as a track, basketball and volleyball official. Roger clerked and served as meet director for several meets here at Warsaw, including the Northern Lakes Conference meet as well as post-season meets, and he officiated across the state for many years. Both men embodied a servant’s heart to the Warsaw Community and will be sorely missed.
At 4:45, awards the Morrey Hester Spirit Award and the Roger Haeck Memorial Award will be given to a senior male and a senior female from the WCHS Track & Field teams. The winner of the Morrey Hester Spirit Award will be one that embodies the “spirit” that Morrey brought with him every day in life. The athlete must have participated in track and field for all four years in order to be considered. Morry was a tremendous community member who displayed a smile and a never quit attitude every day. He worked several years volunteering at track meets for both the Men’s and Women’s teams and provided encouragement or shared a life lesson as often as he could. This award is to symbolize his memory to continue to display his “spirit” in our athletes for many years.
The Roger Haeck Memorial Award will be awarded to one senior member of the Men’s or Women’s team selected by the two coaching staffs. The recipient must have displayed four years of service to the track team and also demonstrated a servant leadership role outside of track and field. Roger Haeck was involved in several ways in the lives of the student-athletes of the Warsaw Community as a teacher, coach and official in several sports. The student-athlete must also be among the top 10% of his or her class.
Additionally, the entire Northern Lakes Conference will pause prior to the National Anthem and just before the finals, taking a moment to recognize the contributions of both of these gentlemen.
