The Warsaw Tigers girls soccer squad celebrated its first Northern Lakes Conference Crown since 2003 after a 1-1 tie with Northridge Thurrsday night at the Tiger Soccer Complex.

The Tigers close the regular season with an impressive 13-1-1 mark and a 6-0-1 record in conference play. Northridge dropped to 10-3-4 overall and 5-0-2 in the NLC.

The two teams battled scoreless throughout much of the match, with both teams having opportunities, including a Tiger shot from Alyssa Adkins that caromed off the crossbar late in the first half. The Tigers broke the deadlock when Liz VanWormer caught up to a long pass from Anna Grill, outracing one of three Northridge defenders to get the ball near the box, and after dribbling a few contested touches toward the keeper, the senior forward fired in the go-ahead in the 69th minute.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, the lead lasted about 7 seconds. On the ensuring possession, Northridge sent a pass downt he sideline and the Raiders converted on a shot from about 35 yards to tie things up!

The Lady Tigers will face Wawasee next week in the second round of the Plymouth sectional.
