The Warsaw Middle School Band, Choir, and Orchestra Departments will present their Veterans Day Concerts on Wednesday, November 11 at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 pm in the Lakeview Middle School Gymnasium. The concerts will feature the Edgewood Middle School Advanced Band, Lakeview Middle School Advanced Band, Lakeview Middle School Combined Choirs, Edgewood Middle School Combined Choirs, Edgewood Middle School Orchestra and Lakeview Middle School Orchestra. The bands are under the direction of Mr. Joseph Peloza. The Edgewood Choirs are directed by Mr. Dan Beam and the Lakeview Choirs are under the direction of Mrs. Judy Becker. The Middle School Orchestra is under the direction of Mrs. Carolyn Stalcup. The concerts are free of charge and the public is invited to attend.

The Middle School Bands, Choirs and Orchestras would like to cordially invite all veterans and their families to attend these concerts in their honor.

The Warsaw Community High School Marching Tigers' Pride will compete in Scholastic State Finals for the third consecutive year. On Saturday, October 10, the band competed in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Scholastic State Preliminary contest at Homestead High School. Warsaw qualified for Scholastic State Finals by earning a Gold rating from a panel of six judges at Prelims.

Scholastic State Finals will be held at Lawrence Central High School on October 24th. The Tigers' Pride will compete in the Scholastic A Class with their program, "While the City Sleeps...". The show utilizes music, visuals, and sound effects to depict scenes and themes representing a dark, urban landscape. The band is under the direction of Mickey Ratliff and Emily Mikel.

Warsaw Community High School Bands present "That 70's(ish) Show"

The Warsaw Community High School Bands will present their Pops Concert - entitled "That 70's(ish) Show" - on Thursday, May 21st. The WCHS Concert Band will perform music from movie soundtracks like "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", "Fantasia", "Back to the Future", "E.T.", and others. The WCHS Wind Ensemble will perform songs from the 1970's, including "Carry On Wayward Son", "Hooked On a Feelin'", and songs by the band Chicago. The Wind Ensemble will also perform songs by The Beatles and music from "Into the Woods". The WCHS Jazz Band, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Choir, and Sax Ensemble will also perform a variety of pop and jazz standards.

The Flute Ensemble is under the direction of Dianne Martin-Ratliff. All other bands and ensembles are directed by Mickey Ratliff and Emily Mikel. The concert, which begins at 7:30pm in the WCHS Performing Arts Center, is free and open to the public. Contact the WCHS Performing Arts Center at 371-5037 for more information.

Congratulations to the WCHS Jazz Band for their performance at the Plymouth High School Café Jazz Festival on Saturday. The band received an award for “Outstanding Rhythm Section” and Drew Tomasik received an award for “Outstanding Solo Performance”. The Jazz Band will next perform this Thursday at the WCHS Fine Arts Festival. Congratulations, everyone!

WARSAW COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ BAND and PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

“JAZZ in the NIGHT/ DRUM ENCHANTED EVENING”, THURSDAY, MAY 7th

The Warsaw Community High School Music Department will present “Jazz in the Night/ Drum Enchanted Evening” Thursday, May 7th at 7:30pm. The concert will feature the WCHS Jazz Band, the WCHS Percussion Ensemble, and the combined Edgewood/ Lakeview Middle School Jazz Band. Two special guest artists - David Threlkeld (tenor sax) and David Ridenour (guitar) – will also perform with the ensembles.

The WCHS Jazz Band will perform a wide variety of musical styles, including classic jazz standards by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Sonny Rollins, and Dave Brubeck, as well as the jazz-rock of contemporary bands like Tower of Power and Steps Ahead. The WCHS Jazz Band performs extensively and has received numerous accolades and honors over the years, including invitations to perform at the prestigious Elkhart Jazz Festival in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

The WCHS Percussion Ensemble will perform pieces ranging from early 20th-century ragtime to the Latin-jazz of the Pat Metheny Group and the hard rock of the band Fishbone. The WCHS Winter Percussion Ensemble will perform its 2015 competition show, “Dance on a Volcano”, based on the 1970’s-era progressive rock music of the band, Genesis. The WCHS Percussion Ensemble is a five-time Indiana State Champion and has been a state finalist for nineteen consecutive years. The WCHS Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble are under the direction of Mickey Ratliff. The Middle School Jazz Band is directed by Joseph Peloza.

Performing with the WCHS Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble will be special guest artists David Threlkeld and David Ridenour. Threlkeld is a Professor of Music at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY, where he directs the UC Jazz Ensemble, and teaches private lessons on flute, clarinet, and saxophone. He also serves as the Coordinator of Instrumental Studies, and coordinates the UC Jazz Clinic. As a performer, Threlkeld is director of the London (KY) Jazz Orchestra, The Little Big Band and The Dave Threlkeld Quartet. He has also performed with such artists as Lou Rawls, Shirley Jones, The Temptations and the Four Tops. Threlkeld currently serves as the president of the Kentucky Association of Jazz Educators and frequently adjudicates jazz ensemble, marching band, concert band, and solo and ensemble festivals. In 2013, he was presented with the Excellence in Teaching Award by the University of the Cumberlands.

David Ridenour is a guitarist/vocalist/composer from Cincinnati, Ohio. As a performer, he has appeared on stage with such artists as Maynard Ferguson, Ray Charles, Joan Baez, The Temptations, Chuck Berry, Lee Greenwood, Johnny Rivers, Percy Sledge, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Helen Reddy, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops, the Louisville Pops, and the Lexington Philharmonic. Ridenour’s original compositions have appeared on television programs such as "Will and Grace”, "Passions", and "Providence", and on recordings by the jazz quintet Crackpot Theory. Ridenour earned a BM in Jazz Guitar Performance from Morehead State University (KY) and currently teaches and performs regularly in the Cincinnati area.

“Jazz in the Night/ Drum Enchanted Evening” will take place Thursday, May 7th at 7:30 in the Warsaw Performing Arts Center. Admission is $5. Tickets are available in the WCHS Performing Arts Center box office. TG’s Frozen Yogurt of Warsaw will sell yogurt in the lobby from 6:45 to 7:30 and again at intermission.
