According to Coach Erba, for as many times in the past four years, the Warsaw Lady Tigers hoisted the Regional Championship trophy. Tallying 79 points and edging a tough Penn team by just 7 points, Warsaw completed another undefeated run through the tournament season leading up to the State Meet. While Warsaw had no event champions on the night, they will be sending a large contingent to the State Meet by virtue of multiple 2nd and 3rd place finishes. Leading the way tonight for the State Qualifiers were the three relays, all of which established facility records by Warsaw athletes:
*The 4x800m relay of Hannah Dawson, Brooke Rhodes, Anna Craig and Allison Miller turned the tables and edged out Goshen for a 2nd place finish in a season-best time of 9:31.49.
*The 4x100m relay of Mariah Harter, Samantha Alexander, Abbi Curtis, and Audrey Rich (48.44) ran under the Regional Meet record set by Warsaw last year but was edged out by South Bend Washington by.10 second.
*The 4x400m of Nicole Eckert, Jazzmine Brown, Tennie Worrell and Audrey Rich (4:02.31) ran a season-best time to finish runners up behind Penn.
For individual events, Warsaw had multiple athletes step up to score important points throughout the night and advance to the State Meet in Bloomington.
*Audrey Rich (26.22) raced to a 2nd place finish in the 200m to help score huge event points at the end of the meet.
*Samantha Alexander set a facility record with a Long Jump of 17' 5" before settling for 2nd place overall; she is the first Warsaw Long Jumper to reach the State Meet in school history. She then stepped out to the track one final time to take an important 3rd place finish in the 200m.
*Nicole Eckert ran a season-best 45.77, nearly breaking her own Warsaw athlete facility record, to finish 2nd overall and punch her ticket to the State Meet for the second straight year.
*Allison Miller overcame the competition and conditions to claim the third and final 3200m State qualifying spot with a 11:34.40 effort.
Also on the night, multiple athletes contributed throughout the meet by placing in the top 8 in their events:
*Rebecca Lemon (Pole Vault-4th)
*Mia Beckham (1600m-5th)
*Mariah Harter (100m-5th)
*Alexie Day (High Jump-6th)...in the most competitive and deep HJ event in years! 9 girls jumped 5' 2" or higher and 4 cleared 5' 4" to 5' 6".
*Jazzmine Brown (High Jump-8th)
*Brooke Rhodes (400m-7th)
Next up for the Lady Tigers is the Indiana State Meet in Bloomington on Saturday, June 6 at 3:00p.
